Mauna Kea Resort

In the 1960s the Kohala Coast was just being discovered. Laurance Rockefeller came and discovered an ideal location for a world-class resort. In 1965 the Mauna Kea Hotel was the first to open and was praised as one of the “Three greatest hotels in the world” by Esquire magazine.

Here two hotels anchor the resort of about 230 acres with their signature dining and spa facilities: the newly-renovated Mauna Kea Hotel and the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. There are two 18-hole golf courses on the resort: the Mauna Kea golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., is a legendary masterpiece with incredible panoramic sweeps of sea and land. The second golf course is the Hapuna course climbing to about 700 feet above sea level. Two great beaches complete the picture: the famed Kauna’oa beach and the Hapuna beach.
